106. 10 Communication Mistakes to Avoid as a Woman in Leadership

Communication is truly the foundation from which effective leadership is built.  It is the vehicle through which we articulate our vision, convey expectations, inspire action, and help our people feel heard, seen, and valued.  Effective communication enables leaders to establish rapport and cultivate trust.   Poor communication can do the exact opposite, and it will cripple your ability to be an effective leader.  Today on this Quick Tip Tuesday episode, I am going to go over 10 common communication mistakes to avoid as a woman in leadership.  
 
By avoiding common communication mistakes and prioritizing active listening, empathy, and open dialogue, women leaders can cultivate a positive work culture where employees feel valued, supported, and empowered.

105. A Deeper Look at the Protection God Offers Us in Psalm 91:1-4 ✝️

Have you ever really looked at and thought about the promises in Psalm 91?  Most of us have heard the Psalm several times, but have you dissected it verse by verse? I am doing a daily study right now of Psalm 91, and it has been very powerful to break down the scripture and really soak in the protection God has for us. This psalm reveals God’s nature and the conditions required for us to enjoy His protection.
 
 Psalm 91 is the one place in scripture where all of God’s protection promises are brought together in one collection.  It is another example of God’s covenant with us through the Holy Spirit.  I wanted to spend some time going through each verse a little more in-depth and try to put it in life application terms. Today we are going through verses 1-4.

104. 4 Steps to Go Paperless and Get Organized as a Busy Professional Woman

I am coming back to the topic of decluttering and getting organized.  I have to tell you about my recent break up with paper…26 years’ worth of paper!  Today I take you through my 4-step process for going (almost) paperless and getting more organized. 
 
Over the Christmas break, my daughter was home.  I had shared with her my goals around decluttering and that the paper thing was probably the most daunting.  Well, she got the process started and we accomplished a lot! 
 
We applied my 4 step process to decluttering, and I went from a stack of papers that was taller than I am, down to just one desk drawer worth of papers. It is so freeing!  Tune in to hear how we did it and how you can do it too.

103. Learn How to Practice the 80/20 Rule for Effective Time Management. ⌛

Have you ever heard of the Pareto Principle, otherwise known as the 80/20 rule?  Well, it is a really interesting principle that states that 80% of consequences come from 20% of actions – and it has been shown to hold true for many different aspects of life and business.   It has even become a way to improve time management and enhance productivity. 
 
As I began to look at my days and how I function, this principle holds true when it comes to what I accomplish.  And, as I have come to understand that, it changes how I schedule my most important tasks.  Today we are talking about how to apply the 80/20 rule in your life and work so that you can up your game when it comes to time management.

102. Am I Allowed to Be Human as a Christian Woman in Leadership? 🥴

I have to come clean…  I struggled to sit down and record this episode.  It’s not that I don’t want to hang out with all of you lovely people. Knowing you are out there, serving you, and knowing you are generous enough to give me a little bit of your very valuable and limited time is among the greatest blessings in my life right now. 
 
I was struggling to show up this week because I am human.  The past several weeks have been shining examples of my humanness.  Much like many of you, I sometimes struggle with perfectionism.  I want to show up and have all kinds of wisdom to share with you.  I want to share the successes that come from doing the work I talk about on this show. 
 
Spoiler alert…I am not perfect.  I am human and I don’t always live up to my expectations.  But that is real life.  It is real life for me and it is real life for you.
So today we are talking about how we are just that…  we are human.  Even though we are Christian women leaders, we are just as human as anyone else.  Sometimes we just don’t allow ourselves to be.  Our times of vulnerability may just be prime opportunities to tune in to what God has to say to us.

101. 6 Strategies for Professional Women to Declutter Your Schedule and Prioritize What Matters Most.

Today we are going to get back to the topic of Decluttering.  I told you that I am determined to do some decluttering this winter, and it doesn’t just apply to things in my home. 
 
As professional women, the demands of work, family, and personal commitments can often leave us feeling stretched very thin. Juggling multiple responsibilities can be challenging, but we do have some control over our time and we can be intentional to focus on what matters most.  But, in order to focus on what matters, we need to quit wearing “busy” as a badge of honor and we need to declutter our schedules. 
 
By strategically managing our time, we can create space for the most important things, fostering a healthier work-life balance and enhancing our overall well-being.  But notice I said strategically managing our time.   Time management requires some intentional strategy.
 
Today I share 6 key principles when it comes to decluttering your schedule and creating more for what matters most to you.

100. 5 Tips to Remain Calm When Faced with Criticism 🤨 as a Leader.

On the roller coaster ride of leadership, criticism in some form or fashion is inevitable. Criticism can be extremely hard to handle, leader or not.  As leaders, the reality is that we are likely going to receive more than our fair share.  You need to expect it and learn to accept it as part of the job.   
 
That is far easier said than done.  Being a leader does not make us any less human or any less vulnerable to our feelings.  I had a recent experience in which I was faced with criticism, but I was able to remain calm and professional despite the feedback being given.  It was an exercise in grace-filled leadership, for sure! 
 
Today I am going to share 5 Tips for remaining calm in the face of criticism.  While the context is leadership, this honestly applies to any situation where you find yourself confronted with criticism.

Welcome to another episode on the Grace Filled Leader podcast, where it is my mission to help you become fueled by grace and find freedom from people pleasing so that you can create more time for the things that matter most while elevating your impact as a Christian woman in leadership.
 
I was in a situation recently that required me to have a rather difficult conversation with a team member, and I wanted to be sure that I approached the conversation with intention and calm, and in such a way that would be less likely to be perceived negatively or go off the rails into an emotional rabbit hole.
 
I used a 4-step process to approach the conversation and it was very helpful to set up the conversation and reduce the risk of creating a defensive situation.  It was useful in ensuring that we ended with a clear direction going forward.
